What is a Certified B Corporation?
Certified B Corporations®, also known as B Corps ™, are companies that use the power of business to build a more inclusive and sustainable economy. The B stands for “benefit” and refers to benefiting workers, the community, and the environment.
B Corp Certification does not just evaluate a product or service; it rates the overall positive impact of the company that stands behind it. Certified B Corps meet the highest verified standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.
During the assessment process, a company’s performance is measured in five categories: governance, workers, customers, community, and the environment. Certified B Corporations are required to consider the impact of their decisions on all stakeholders: their workers, customers, society, and the environment. The B Corp community works toward reduced inequality, lower levels of poverty, a healthier environment, stronger communities, and the creation of high-quality jobs with dignity and purpose.
Currently, there are more than 2,700 certified B Corps from 150 industries and more than 60 countries around the world.*
Who certifies B Corporations?
B Lab is a non-profit organization based in the United States that certifies B Corporations on an international level through a process of assessment, qualification, and commitment to meeting rigorous standards. The Certification process uses credible, comprehensive, transparent, and independent standards of social and environmental performance. B Lab’s vision is of an inclusive and sustainable economy that creates a shared prosperity for all.
