About us
ecoBirdy redesigns discarded plastic into sustainable and ergonomic furniture. The brand offers aesthetically pleasing and functional designs for kids and grown-ups.
ecoBirdy was founded in 2018 in Antwerp by Vanessa Yuan and Joris Vanbriel who come from different cultural backgrounds. After gaining professional experience in diverse fields of the international fashion and design industry, they realized that they share a vision to create solutions for environmental problems using innovative technologies.
Their two-year study on materials resulted in a recycled and recyclable plastic material named ecothylene®. After the creation of this patented upcycling process, ecoBirdy was launched with its debut collection of children’s furniture made from discarded plastic toys. Shortly thereafter, it received multiple international awards for its innovative design and sustainable approach.
The iconic Charlie Chair, Luisa Table, Rhino Lamp and Kiwi Container, along with a school programme and the story book “Journey to a New Life” were created to introduce youngsters to the circular economy.
ecoBirdy expanded its collection by initiating an ethical “grown-up” line of home décor. The Furniture Collection and Tableware Collection consisting of — Richard Armchair, Judy Side Table, Frost Table and Mabo Plate — prove that upcycled plastic waste can fit any needs.
The design, recycling, and production of ecoBirdy furniture are all done in Europe. ecoBirdy has implemented social and environmental responsibility in every aspect of the brand and has been acknowledged by B Corp since 2019.
ecoBirdy’s designs are part of the permanent collections of leading museums across the world, such as the Young V&A Museum in London, the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna and the Design Museum Brussels.
